Cline Avenue Bridge Inspection (State Road 912)

Ken Herceg & Associates, Inc. performed an emergency bridge inspection which included testing, analysis and evaluation on the Cline Avenue Bridge for INDOT. In particular, this included: managing three subconsultants (over 50 individuals); acquiring safety life equipment; oxygen sensors; permits; safety training; and traffic control. Other requirements developed as the project progressed, such as: compressive and tensile tests; chloride tests; borescoping; assessing internal tendons; and developing an analysis approach to incorporate results.

The concern was raised because similar structures on the East coast were exhibiting serious tendon deficiencies. At over a mile in length, consisting of twin mainline structures and four separate ramp structures, the SR 912 bridge posed a logistical challenge in completing the field work and assessing the structures' safety as soon as possible. During six months of field work, focus was given to thoroughly inspect the bridge with an array of nondestructive and non-invasive testing methods. The final report confirmed the structural integrity of the bridge.
